What is EMDR?
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy that helps people heal from trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. When something upsetting happens, your brain can sometimes struggle to process it fully, leaving you feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

EMDR works by helping your brain "reprocess" these memories. During a session, your therapist will guide you to focus on a troubling memory while using side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or sounds. This process helps your brain change how it stores the memory, so it feels less intense or painful. Over time, this can help you feel calmer and more in control of your emotions.
Originally developed to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), EMDR has been extensively researched and is now used to help with a wide range of challenges, including:

-
Childhood trauma or abuse
-
Anxiety and panic attacks
-
Depression
-
Grief and loss
-
Phobias
-
Performance anxiety
-
Relationship struggles
-
Medical traumal.
When we experience trauma, our brain’s natural ability to process and store memories can become overwhelmed. As a result, distressing memories may remain “stuck,” showing up later as flashbacks, nightmares, intense emotional reactions, or negative beliefs about ourselves (e.g., “I’m not safe,” “I’m broken,” “It was my fault”).

EMDR is not about reliving trauma—it’s about safely unlocking the brain’s natural ability to heal. Many clients report that after EMDR, they feel lighter, less reactive, and more present in their everyday lives. The changes often feel subtle but deeply transformational.

EMDR therapy helps unlock these stuck memories. During a session, we’ll work together to identify target memories, explore current triggers, and strengthen your inner resources. With bilateral stimulation, your brain is able to reprocess the memory and store it in a way that no longer causes distress. Clients often report feeling lighter, more empowered, and less reactive after EMDR sessions.
